Scanning of URLs and words
SiteCoach is a content filtering/parental control tool
which uses special proxy technology to block access to web
sites containing content that is deemed harmful, indecent,
offensive, pornographic or otherwise inappropriate.
Why you should deploy SiteCoach!
In most countries there are laws that prohibit content
providers from making certain content public. These laws
do not only apply to magazines and videos, but also material
available on the Internet and that can be accessed from
a public terminal.
Examples of prohibited content:
The use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations
(e.g. the Swastika)
Sedition
The denial of the Holocaust
The glorification of violence (this usually refers to the
depiction of acts of extreme cruelty against human beings)
Pornography characterized by acts of violence or involving
children or animals
We feel obliged to inform you that it may be prohibited
by law to import (download), manufacture, purchase, advertise,
distribute or provide access to the content described above.
Any violations of these laws are subject to prosecution!
This is a good reason to use the SiteCoach [Plug-In] (part
of the Plus and Payment Bundle as well as of the school
and library license).
How SiteCoach works
SiteCoach is basically a proxy server that scans and, if
necessary, block web sites in real time (zero-time filtering)
if any suspicious content is found. Your IE proxy settings
will remain valid.
We have compiled a Forbidden list containing over 150,000
categorized domains that comes with the product. Entries
on this list will automatically be blocked. Example: http://www.playboy.com
Several thousand "clean" domains are included
on an Allowed list the content of which will automatically
be considered unharmful. This list contains, for example,
the web sites of all German cities, which will not be blocked
even if "suspicious" content were detected.
You can, of course, manually expand both of these two lists.
We maintain these lists and provide free updates over the
Internet. The list will be updated as soon as your terminal
has established an online connection. Note: these lists
will only be maintained for SiteKiosk 5.0 and newer versions.
If you need updated SiteCoach lists please upgrade to at
least SiteKiosk 5.0.
A complex list of words containing regular expressions will
optionally be used to scan web sites missing on the list
for forbidden expressions:
URL - e.g. http://www.sex*.*/
Document Title - e.g. <title>sex etc.</title>
Meta tags - e.g. keywords: sex, etc.
Body - will scan the body for forbidden expressions
Since the scanning process is always performed while the
page is being loaded rather than after the page has already
been opened by the browser, the user will not notice any
delay in loading the page.
Automatic updates for the filtering lists are available
for free download, i.e. as soon as there are new lists available
on our servers, the terminals will automatically download
and integrate these lists.
